Life Lessons in Working Smarter, Not Harder in Job Search Strategy

The motto is always work smarter, not harder.

So I'm going to teach you how to apply for fewer jobs, and get more callbacks and engagement from employers. Because the truth is — no one has time to apply for hundreds of jobs and hope someone calls back; hope someone sees your value and reaches out. We need to be more strategic about our job search and our approach to career development. That strategy comes in understanding the insider knowledge about the job market and how to apply it.

Things have drastically changed in the last six months. The labor market is tightening and you must be more strategic about your job search.

Regardless of the market, if you are overworked, underpaid, and unfulfilled in your current position, you absolutely need to do the work now that positions you as an expert. Create new opportunities that will offer you security whether things get tighter or we begin to see the impacts of a major recession.

Prioritize intentionality over the art of doing right. Let me invite you into a new perspective. This is not about getting your application materials in front of as many people as possible to improve chances someone will select you. Not in this labor market; not in any labor market. It's all about being intentional and strategic; about positioning yourself as the top candidate and positioning your level of expertise around the problem that you can solve.

Focus on applying for jobs where you have 70% or more of the qualifications. This will allow you to apply for fewer jobs. We're not out there applying for anything and everything, applying for jobs that we're underqualified or overqualified for. We should focus on applying right at that 70% qualified range.
I hope that this strategy helps you live more intentionally and position yourself as an expert.
