Life Lessons in How to Know If Your Job is Toxic
Here's the truth. Some work environments are simply toxic. Their goals and operations undermine your performance objectives. Their leadership and policies are not supportive. You don't feel valued or compensated at the level that you desire. Now is the time to recognize it as the toxic work environment it is. You can shift to taking the necessary actions to move your career to a space where it can thrive. Let’s talk about shifting from toxic to taking action by recognizing the bad behaviors.
They regularly ask you to take on more work without additional compensation. Your employer should not constantly ask for or assign more duties outside of your original scope of work without recognizing your efforts with compensation.
An environment fueled by gossip exists. You want to make sure that you are not the center of the gossip - either the subject of or the one starting all the gossip. If you're the person doing all the finger pointing or bringing up other people's business, that is a problem. And if you are constantly talking about other people talking about you, spreading rumors or lies, then you're the problem. Shift away from being a part of that behavior.
You sense an underlying environment of constant delay. It may be difficult to recognize but looking closely, you realize there is no commitment to take action, no initiatives that drive innovation, and no inspiration to try new things. There is a constant vibe of ‘we can't do that right now.’
Whether this sounds like what you need support with or you’ve tried to make the shift and nothing is working, you deserve to see results. It’s time to stop wanting more and start getting more. I invite you into mentorship today.
