Life Lessons in How to be More Marketable Without Going Back to School
Let me start this blog post by sharing that I do value education. As a woman with a PhD, as a woman with a master's degree, and as a woman with higher educational leadership experience, I know the value of education. ๐ฉ๐พโ๐
But simply having that degree does not automatically make you more marketable than someone who doesnโt have that degree. ๐
Many of my mentees start off our initial meeting by telling me how they desire to be more marketable in the workplace. They want to leverage their skills as experts in their field but feel stuck with how to move forward. ๐ค
How do you make yourself more marketable?
One step is to articulate your skillset.
You need to learn how to articulate your value to potential employers. Learn how to articulate the skills, the knowledge, and the expertise that you already have. You donโt want to become disillusioned and frustrated after you earn a degree and while you're still paying back said degree. ๐ฃ
Another step you can take is to leverage your knowledge and expertise.
In Mentor Me, you will learn how to leverage what you already have to get what you want and to position yourself as a top candidate in the marketplace. โ๏ธ
The last step we should cover is to speak to your degree.
And to be clear, I am talking about the degree you already have. ๐ You need to be able to speak to how you solve problems leveraging the knowledge, skills, and expertise that you gained from said degree. ๐
Before we finish today, letโs also chat a bit about what are marketable skills?
Firstly, you need to be a problem solver.
Employers are looking to hire for positions because they have a problem they need to solve. They want to know that you can solve the problems that they have. ๐งฎ
Another highly marketable skill is project management.
Any time you can demonstrate your successes in managing people, teams, processes, and policies, will make you highly marketable to employers. ๐ฉ๐พโโ๏ธ
The final skill to cover today is delegation.
There is always work to be done, am I right? But that does not mean that you have to be the one to do it all. Being able to delegate tasks to others so that work is still being completed, and not making others feel taken advantage of is a highly marketable skill. ๐คน๐พโโ๏ธ

I know that making big career decisions is extremely tough, but they donโt always result in you having to head back to school. ๐ซ
