Life Lessons in How Boredom is the Biggest Threat to Your Career
I know what some of you are thinking. Ashley, boredom at work is not that big of a deal. Everyone deals with it. Boredom is just a part of having a job and going to work every day. It can’t be that big of a threat.
But, in true Ashley fashion, I am here to bust that myth bubble!
Because boredom at work is a HUGE deal!
Are you dealing with boredom at work?
If you answered “yes,” then you are in the correct place. Boredom at work leads to so many other issues that will sneak up on you if you allow the boredom to persist.
Do you feel uninspired?
If you feel uncommitted, like you're not driving real impact…if you don't feel like you want to make more money or be intentional about your career, I absolutely want to put you on notice. I want to alarm you.
Do you feel like you are making an impact in your career?
You should always strive to be adding value in your career. You should always be doing work that feels meaningful. You should always be driving impact. And if you're not doing that, you're in your cell.
Do you just put your head down and work even though you are unhappy?
I understand feeling so desperate and unhappy at work that you’d do anything to get out. Maybe you move into another job where you are overqualified and not being paid well. Maybe it was just the best next step, but it really wasn't what you wanted to do. And now you find yourself in this role feeling very bored and just doing unmeaningful work.
Boredom at Work is a Big Deal!
Boredom at work leads to other issues that will creep into your life. There are many reasons why boredom at work is such a huge problem. Let’s dive in together.
Causes an Inflated Ego
Boredom with your job responsibilities makes you have an inflated ego, right? You think, “I can do this with my eyes closed. These people don't deserve me. I could be doing anything I really wanted to.” An inflated ego is an empty ego with nothing to pour into your character or elevate you. Even worse it causes you to actually demean other people and lose their respect.
Leads to Poor Performance
The poor performance comes because you assume you know how to do everything, run every process, and you know every other person’s part. When you believe the role is beneath you and you stop caring, that negative attitude starts to affect your performance.
Leads to Resentment
As you go through the motions every day, you realize you aren’t truly contributing or spending your days doing meaningful work. Without the rewards and pride felt in doing a good job, you resent your salary because you despise what you do to earn it. You're resentful. We move from boredom to resentment and once you get resentful, then it's all downhill from there.
Boredom does not have to befall you. You don't have to be bored. You don't have to put up with that. You can have a fulfilling and meaningful career and we can build a roadmap for you to get there together. If that sounds like what you're looking for, I invite you to apply to work with me today.
