5 Signs You Need a New Job

Way too often,  I hear people asking the higher powers for a signal, a sign, the final drop in their glass that makes them realize it’s time to find a new job. With 4 in every 10 workers potentially quitting their jobs in 2022, at least someone sees the signs.

Of course, like many things in life, sometimes we don’t recognize any of the red flags glaring at our faces.

But…

If 95% of your conversations revolve about complaining about your job, that’s immediately a red flag.🚩

Noticing too many organizational shifts is the second red flag.🚩🚩

When you have an everything-but-positive work environment, that’s your third red flag.🚩🚩🚩

Those are all clear signs that it’s time to say #lookingforwork on LinkedIn.

Of course, there are a million and one reasons to get a new gig, but these are by far the most noticeable signs you need a new job.

1. You have seen no growth

Too often, we’re so submerged in our daily roles that we forget to look at the bigger picture.

What ends up happening is that when you look back at your career, you’re like, woah, I’ve been in this same position for the past two years. 😲 My skillset hasn’t changed, and career-wise, I feel I’m in the same place I was two years ago.

While growth doesn’t have to translate to a new title, you’re growing as a professional, and you feel more confident in your role today than you did back then. If you don’t leave, you run the risk of staying too long at a workplace, which can be costly, in more ways than one. 💸

2. You dread working and feel unmotivated

Sure, we all dread getting up to work on Mondays. But, when you dread working every day, that’s an issue. A big issue.

Feeling unmotivated is the first sign you need a new job. If you don’t feel like you’re learning anything new, you don’t see a promotion shortly, and your salary does not reflect rising inflation, what’s the point?

If you still can’t find a way to feel motivated to keep pushing in your job after a change of perspective, it’s time to start looking elsewhere.

3. Your job is taking a toll on your body

Sleep problems? Headaches? Always catching a cold? If you said yes to those three questions, consider this your first warning. 🚩

Drinking more than usual? Eating more or less? Stressed all the time? Now, this is your second warning. 🚩🚩

Constantly arguing with coworkers? Exploding on your loved ones? Playing the victim card? That’s your third and final warning because YOU need a new job. 🚩🚩🚩

These are the signs most people shove under the rug and call it “normal.”

Hey, I’m here to tell you that’s not the norm. Your job shouldn’t be taking a toll on your physical and mental health. It should fuel you to do something amazing, not bring you down.

4. Your job is feeling toxic

If we learn anything from this pandemic, we can recognize a toxic work environment. Wall Street realized it!

Expecting too much of workers without giving back should no longer be tolerated. If your work environment feels too heavy, it’s time to look elsewhere.

Staying at a toxic workplace can bring your confidence down. Eventually, you might even stop doing your job. It’s all tied together.

5. Your values and your workplace values don’t match

Lastly, this is the biggest and most overlooked warning sign that you need a new job. Companies go through many changes, and the pandemic helped us see their true colors.

Some companies came out shining like the beautiful rainbows they are.🌈 Others look more like a thunderstorm.⛈️

Your ethics are a valuable part of who you are as a person. And, when your ethics and the ethics of the company you work at go sideways, it becomes troublesome to keep working there.

When you can’t stand behind what your company considers “worth it” or “valuable,” how can they expect your work to match?

Eventually, even if you stay, slowly but steadily, you’ll start to dread working there. You’ll begin complaining, criticizing, and daydreaming about the day you leave.

Hey, at one point, you’ll be daydreaming about how good it will feel to start looking for a new job.
