Life Lessons in Preparing Your Career for the Second Half of 2022
Today I'm focusing on the second half of 2022 to talk about career trends. Be aware of these as you plan to build your career success specifically in terms of making more money. I want you to be fully prepared to thrive in your career for the remainder of the year.
Trend number one: Stable unemployment rate.
This has actually been going on for a couple of months but now that the great resignation is over, unemployment is remaining stable which means people are more likely to cling to their jobs. Even if they realized they were unhappy a year ago, people stay in their jobs because they are scared and don’t want to go anywhere. They simply are not making career transitions at the same rate that they were in 2021.
Which means that you're now in a much more competitive marketplace. And let this be a lesson to you. Stop waiting on things to happen before you make a career move. At the moment that you know you need career help or to make a transition in your career, or that you recognize that you're being overworked and underpaid—that's the time to make a career transition. Do not wait. Do not stall.
Trend number two: Employers seeking candidates from multiple fields.
Employers are tightening their belts due to inflation and hiring freezes. They're looking for employees who have multiple skills from multiple functional areas to place in their organization and solve a wide range of problems. This means you absolutely must be able to clearly and confidently articulate all of the skill sets that you have to position yourself as a top candidate.
With organizations searching for professionals who have skills crossing multiple functional areas, as a job seeker, you need to be able to professionally and concisely articulate your skill sets, contributions, and successes.
Trend number three: Savvy employees Current employees and job seekers have become incredibly savvy and are seeking out major benefits.
I anticipate that job seekers will be targeting employers who have the greatest benefits to offer their employees. One of those benefits is pay, right? People are expecting to be paid well as inflation rises and as we approach a recession. People looking to make more money and to secure stable careers are looking for those high-paying salaries.
These are my top three predictions that you should be aware of in the second half of 2022. When it comes to your career development, now is the time to really capitalize on the market. NOW is the time to recession-proof your career.
