Life Lessons in How My Mentee Shifted Fields and Secured a $18,500 Salary Increase

Recently I spoke to my mentee, Tramayne, about her experiences since participating in the Mentor Me Accelerator. She is a professional woman who came to me with immense skills and expertise, and was clear about what she wanted out of our mentorship relationship. Finishing the Accelerator, she used our strategies and a renewed confidence to transition to a new industry which led to her $18,000+ salary increase.

As a mentor, I am quick to tell the inspiring stories of the amazing women I work with in my programs. And I find any way I can to tell you that you should invest in yourself too; to believe in yourself. But there is a magic when you get to hear stories from women like you, women who look like you, and women who you can relate to. Sometimes their words help make it clear that mentorship is something you need to prioritize.

Tramayne explained, “I had relied on job search strategies that I figured out on my own when I was a teenager looking for my first job. You know, I thought it was good to bulk up your resume. You should be good to go from there. I had been doing the same things for years and getting the same results. Once I realized my old tactics definitely weren't working for me, we built a strategy which really spoke to me as a communications professional so that I could get behind it and it fit me. Together we had built the tools I needed to make everything happen.”
If you are a professional woman working in corporate, nonprofit, or educational leadership and looking to make more money and have more impact, consider what you want in a relationship with a mentor. Whether it’s finding someone who can help to guide you in your current career, or to find a more fulfilling career, or to transition industries, no matter what aligns with your desires, let’s chat about that and decide what we can do together. I invite you into mentorship.
