Life Lessons from My Mentee Tracee on Taking Action
My last several blog posts have been about things you will learn if you choose to participate in my mentorship program, Mentor Me Accelerator.
Some of you may have been thinking over these last several weeks, “Sure, Ashley, you can say your program is good, but what about people who have actually participated in it?”
Well, today, that is exactly what I am here to share with you. Today, we will be talking about my mentee, Tracee, and all the success she had when she began to implement all the things she learned while in Mentor Me.
Tracee transitioned from education to nonprofit and secured a $15,000 salary increase, all while leveraging the Mentor Me strategies that she learned from the Accelerator program.
While in the program, Tracee said, “It was an amazing experience. Of course, at the time, we were being challenged; we were being pushed to really develop our skills and really come down to a science of what our values are.”
Learning to dig into her values and understand how they should be guiding her career, is one of the things Tracee appreciated most about the Mentor Me Accelerator. Throughout her career, Tracee had been told, as a professional woman, job security was much more important than what she valued from a company or in a position, through the accelerator she learned that that was a lie.
Tracee had been transferred to another department and felt completely pigeonholed in her role. Yes, she had the advanced degree, but she also brought value in terms of strategic partnerships and partnerships that she found and developed in the program.
But, she often felt unappreciated, unfulfilled, and stagnant in that role. She also found her position boring, mundane, and monotonous.
Not at all what she wanted for her professional career. She wanted her work to feel valuable, to make an impact in her field.
And I think many of you can relate to where Tracee was at. And, you keep just plugging along, feeling like this is just how work is supposed to be.
But, this is where Tracee is different, she decided to reach out and get some assistance in her search for something more impactful.
Tracee worked with several mentors who told her this is how her resume should look, or this is what your cover letter needs to say, but she knew that she needed more.
Tracee knew that she needed a more personal mentoring program where she could talk to someone, ask questions, and get real feedback, and she got that through the Mentor Me Accelerator.
One of the first cornerstones in Mentor Me is to help professional women leverage the skills they already have to get what they want. This doesn’t mean they have to go get another degree, certification, or learn a new skill (although there is nothing wrong with any of this). But what I want to teach you is how to leverage the degrees and credentials that you already have, because what you already have is valuable, but it's likely under-leveraged and is underutilized.
I am so proud of Tracee for taking action, for investing in herself and getting the help that she needed to advance her career.
I want the same for you. Don’t wait. Don’t let this amazing opportunity pass you by.
If you’re still where you were six months ago or a year ago or pre-pandemic, it’s time to get the help that you need to shift.
Let’s work together to help you advance your career in the ways you desire.
Take action and schedule your Mentor Moment today.
