Life Lessons in If Certifications Really Help You Advance Your Career

It starts slow. You don't even recognize it at first, but before you know it, you have 17 Google certifications, five LinkedIn learnings, and three certifications; four from courses of which you have no idea what to do with it.

And today, we're talking about credential creep. I see this insidious phenomenon infecting women and high-achieving professionals across all industries.

It's this desire to earn a degree, a credential, a certification, or a training certificate around all these different areas, and you have no idea what to do with them. You don't really know where to put them on your resume. You don't know if you're supposed to add a LinkedIn badge. You don't see how they're driving outcomes in your career, but you continue to collect them because you don't know what else to do to advance your career.

My mentorship is designed to help high-achieving professional women use the skills, knowledge, talent, and expertise they already have to drive massive impact in their careers and earn more money. And so whether you've had that idea in your head or not, I invite you to act on the idea.

Because once you start to believe in yourself like that, once you believe and accept that radical truth and it is true,  you can use what you have to get what you want. But if you commit to that radical truth, then you can really realize more satisfaction, fulfillment, and joy in your career.

My role as a mentor is to help you avoid credential creep and stop going after different certifications and trainings. It's essential to use what you have and leverage it because it's advantageous for time. None of us have time to waste. None of us have all day.

And so I invite you to use what you have now. Using what you have now ensures you don't have to wait until your next degree. You don't have to wait for another certification. You don't have to wait till you get your next training credential. You can use what you have now.

We want to start by using what we already have. It is wasteful to be collecting all these degrees, credentials, and certifications and not know how to use them.

And I teach that skill set in my mentorship programs. I'm accepting new mentees right now, and I invite you to a conversation with me to discuss your career this week.
