Life Lessons in How to Use Entrepreneurship Strategies in Your Career
Intrapreneurship is the best of both worlds.
And I'm here today to tell you how you can be your own boss inside an organization but still have the autonomy and flexibility of entrepreneurship.
One of the things that I constantly hear from women is that they want more autonomy, flexibility, and control over their careers. Nothing is more frustrating than being micromanaged, belittled, and directed at every turn at work. But a lot of women do not desire to be entrepreneurs.
So first, we want to talk about what intrapreneurship is. Intrapreneurship is the idea of taking entrepreneurs' principles and folding them into an established existing organization. For example, a big part of the entrepreneur worship mindset, or how entrepreneurs work, is that they are willing to test things. They are still deciding if their idea, concept, or strategy will work. But they are ready to test things and eager to try new things.
That's an entrepreneurial mindset that you can apply inside an existing organization.
Another principle of intrapreneurship, and every entrepreneur will tell you this, is that it requires collaboration and delegation.
Entrepreneurs are often collaborating, co-working, and bringing on temp hires, contract workers, and others to do things for them. They're often delegating parts of their business to outsiders to make sure our systems are processed right and that things flow smoothly.
The same thing should be happening in your work.
When I take my entrepreneurship mindset and bring it into my workplace, that's the best of both worlds. Intrapreneurship is the best of both worlds.
